Living Room Progress - Let the Sun Shine! (Sunburst Mirror and Dresser)

As I mentioned in a post last week, the sunburst mirror I bought ended up behind the sofa.

I also mentioned the dresser was planned for our bedroom.  And it may eventually end up there one day, but for now it's right where I set it up to paint: behind the sofa.

Here's a "before" pic I found on my phone:

Another a "Happy Friday" pic of these tulips Seth bought (Seth's anniversary gift was getting flowers once a week.  Score!):

The bird was a $.99 thrift store purchase that I painted white.  There's a little chip on the wing (cue Martina McBride's "Broken Wing"!) but it doesn't bother me because you never see it.

Oh, and I finally got around to reading the latest issue of Lonny this weekend.  What a surprise that after posting about sunbursts behind the sofa and "our" mirror in House Beautiful a very similar one was also shown in interior designer Dan Patford's home.

Pretty close resemblance, right?

Well, whattaya' think?  Should I keep it behind the sofa or try something larger?

I know a shot of the room may help to get a better idea.  First I need to let you in on my sofa find.  And I know, the chandelier reveal is well overdue.  Next week!

Sunburst Mirror Behind the Sofa - Inspiration

Last week I mentioned the sunburst mirror purchase, and ended up hanging it behind the sofa, even though for awhile I was planning on making or buying a large piece of art for that space.  Even if it isn't the permanent home (and it very well may be the right spot), it's certainly an improvement for now.

Until I post some photos in our space, here are some images I came across this weekend to give you an idea:

I know it's not a mirror, but it's close enough.  I think Jan stole my vision via telepathy, so I'm both impressed and pretty mad (the "mad" part was a joke).

I love this space.   I keep magenta flowers around until they're brown... it's always been one of my favorite colors, just like lime green.  I *heart* black and white geometric rugs, too.  And if that's not enough, I've been considering a brass/gold glass coffee table for awhile.  Is this a sign?

She also stole my coffee table.  It's really strange... like I'm not the only one on earth who has this idea.

Okay, that's it.  I'm getting a brass coffee table.
It's interesting how the sunburst mirror fills a space with style more easily than so many pieces twice the size. It's also interesting how this post started out about sunburst mirrors behind the sofa, and ended up about brass coffee tables.

Do you think I'm just seduced by the sunburst, or is it too small?  Do you think interior designers are stealing my ideas before I have a chance to tell anyone, or do I need crazy-pills?

I think crazy-pills.

You are my sunburst, my only sunburst (new mirror)

I had one of the coolest (yes, I say "coolest") lunch breaks last week.  Instead of walking the pooches, I picked up my new gold sunburst mirror.

It's about 3-feet in diameter with sharp metal tips, so carrying it out of the store and loading it into (and out of) the trunk was not and easy or graceful task.  I'm fairly sure I heard some snickering at one point, but what-evs.

Fun-day Monday fact: The mirror below is $375 at Tonic Home ($436 with shipping). I'm 95% sure it's the exact same one.  Maybe even 96% sure.  I did not pay $375.  This make me happy.

Here it is on the cover of House Beautiful:
